Alejandro Cohen is the co-director of the Internet radio station DUBLAB. He co-curates the station’s programming, organizes a yearly ambient music happening called Tonalism, and is the administrator and grant writer for the organization. Alejandro is also a musician and music composer. He has written and performed music as part of numerous projects and groups, including as Languis, Pharaohs, and Psychic Powers. He is also a composer of music for commercials, documentaries, and educational materials.

The workshop to be presented will consist of a brief introduction about DUBLAB, its history, programming and the road to becoming a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Other topics to be discussed at the workshop will be fundraising strategies, and the challenges that an arts and media organization faces in relation to staffing, board of directors, programming, grants, sponsorships, and funding.
In relation to dublab, I’m currently working on developing an evaluation program for the organization, both for it administrative and fund-raising activities and its programming. This is something very important to realize what’s working, and what’s not working. Also an evaluation program that is part of the organization’s routine, can be a powerful tool when it comes to grant opportunities and potential underwriters.
I love http://yatzer.com and http://dismagazine.com both have great articles on design, architecture, ideas, music and everything else. I love them because I feel their approach is the same as ours at dublab on the direction of the content.
