Joel Arquillos is the Executive Director at 826LA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Prior to relocating to Los Angeles, Joel worked alongside Dave Eggers and Ninive Calegari as Director of National Programs for 826 National. From 1998 to 2006, Joel taught social studies in the San Francisco Unified School District at Galileo High School.

Join some of LA’s most innovative educators as they sit down for a discussion around what they are doing to engage their students within and outside of the classroom. Using creative writing, gaming, performers and props 826la, Story Pirates as well as individual teachers are challenging the way students are learning.
A collaboration with the design firm Seso, King Middle School, and Rice University. We’re planning an exchange between students at King M.S. and students in India who will be test driving an iSlate device (an inexpensive iPad) behind developed by professor Krishna Palem from Rice University.
