Robot Hearts Stories is an experiential learning project that uses collaboration and creative problem solving to put education directly in the hands of students. This fall, two classrooms, a continent apart, will work together to get a lost robot home.
The experience begins when a robot crash lands in Montreal and must make her way to LA in order to find her space craft and return home. One classroom in LA (English speaking) and one multimedia workshop for children in Montreal (French speaking), will use math, science, history, geography and creative writing to help a robot make her way across North America.
At the same time, Robot Hearts Stories extends beyond the classroom, as the project welcomes involvement from a global audience. Participants of all ages share their own passions in the form of a creative act involving a robot they can print, customize and document. For each photo or piece of art featuring the robot that is submitted, the “signal strength” of the robot grows stronger thus helping her to return home.
Robot Heart Stories ties directly into Wicked Solutions for a Wicked Problem program at DIY DAYS LA. In addition a special installation will be accessible to those attending DIY DAYS LA that captures the spirit of the project and the project’s experience designer Lance Weiler will make a presentation sharing the results of the experiment.
The project runs for 10 days starting Oct. 17th. Visit www.robotheartstories.com and join in the fun.
A plush robot toy was designed by Monster Factory in Toronto. This is the first prototype of our robot. Isn’t she cute?

DIY DAYS is a roving gathering for those who create. Past stops have included Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston and Philadelphia. FREE to participants and organized by volunteers – DIY DAYS is about the accessibility of ideas, resources and networking that can enable creators to fund, create, distribute and sustain.
