Polyurethane how many coats is normal? Hardwood Floor
FINISHING Presentations to May 2013 FWWA meeting: Oil Varnish Wax the finish! Thin the first coat with around 10% turps. I use a squirrel hair brush. Itís permanently suspended in a jar of turps. with the brush handle sticking up through a hole in the jar lid. Always stir the varnish. I wipe the brush out on a lint free cloth before use. Then I make sure the brush is loaded by dipping in... Water-based finish goes by many names that may include the words "lacquer" or "polyurethane," but most use acrylic or acrylic/polyurethane resins in solvent and water. By eliminating oil, and using acrylic and other clear resins, water-based finishes don't yellow as they age.

Sand it with 220 on a foam block, vacuum off, sand with 400, vacuum, 0000 steel wool, vacuum, tack rag, and apply your final coat with a wide foam brush....If the finish dulls over time, buff it with 220 grit paper and give it a fresh coat of urethane. This should not be required for a long time depending on usage. This should not Ö
Rough Textured Paint Finishes
With a rough finish the solution is to have the floor screened with a polisher and abrasive, hand sand all the edges, clean up well and apply another thin coat. So, no. A full sanding wonít be necessary. how to get free donuts in tapped out 2017 I really only want the first coat of OMU to fill up the pores of the wood, I donít want a build of rough finish. Now that said, if I happen to scuff through my first thin coat of Oil Modified Polyurethane, thatís not a problem for me, as I am using the same finish for all three coats.. Not only is water borne polyurethane thinner, but it also raises the grain of the wood, so the floors can sometimes feel rough with just 2 coats of poly (especially if itís a cheap brand of poly). 3 coats gives you more protection and an extra buffing so it will smooth the surface more and show the woodís imperfections less.
- 14/12/2004†∑ The first coat will usually come out a little rough and needs to be smoothed and etched for the final coat. They will probably use a screen on a floor buffer to get the majority of the floor and hand sand with fine sandpaper or a screen around the edges and in the corners.
- 2/12/2014†∑ Option two would be that the poly raised the grain and you could lightly with 0000 steel wool, wipe the sanding dust off and try another coat of poly. I would try option two first Ė if there are still lumps then pitch the poly and buy some new.
- 28/10/2012†∑ Polyurethane should never be shaken, the entrapped air bubbles causes kernels of cured polyurethane to form which leads to a rough finish. Honestly, the only time you should need to agitate your finish sealer (like poly , lacquer etc) is if you are using a finish other than full gloss. All finishes start out as full gloss and then modifiers are added to reduce the gloss level.
